The Woodturners of Southwest Missouri will be meeting again for our annual club picnic on June 8th at Lake Springfield.  We will meet from 10am to 2pm at the Northwoods Pavilion just north of the Boathouse (directions below).  As we have done in the past, we will have a great time turning “together” by bringing out all of the club lathes and maybe a few more!  The club will provide the meat for the event and ask each member to bring something for a pot-luck meal.

Picnic 2012

Our Picnic this year was a great success with over 65 folks attending.  We had a great meal with everyone bringing a covered dish with the club providing the meats.

We sat up all of our club lathes under some easy up tents and held our second annual Iron Turning Challenge.  Each team was presented with a mystery box of wood and asked to get creative and turn something out of it.  They had just a little under 2 hours to turn something out.  This allowed for teams with mixed experiences to participate in a team environment together.  Everyone seemed to have a great time with this again this year.

Along with our “Iron Turning Challenge” this year we also had the “Frisbee Challenge” this year with 25 entries.  Our club Secretary David Van Giesen had the winning Frisbee when it was thrown of 275 feet, winning the Mini Easy Finisher that was donated by Craft Supplies USA.  Craft Supplies USA is one of our clubs largest supporters.  They are a fantastic source for woodturning tools and supplies.  We are very happy to support them in return THANKS CRAFTS SUPPLY!
