WOODTURNERS OF SOUTHWEST MISSOURI APRIL 2005 APRIL MEETING Our meeting this month is Saturday, April 23 at 9 a.m.. The program for this meeting will be a demonstration by RON HORNER. He will be showing us his technique for creating POLYCHROMATIC TURNINGS. This process results in some very beautiful work and you won't want to miss this meeting. SPECIAL EVENT Our club will have the rare opportunity on Saturday, July 9, 2005 to host a demonstration and lecture by internationally known woodturner CHRIS STOTT. Chris is from Great Britain. He has been a woodturner since 1982. He has written a number of books and travels world wide teaching and demonstrating his craft. You can learn more about Chris and see some of his turned lidded boxes on his web site www. cstott.fslife.co.uk; Mark your calendar now and plan to attend this event. CLUB SURVEY Thanks to everyone who took áthe time to fill out the recent survey form. We are in the process of summarizing the information and will share it with you at an up-coming meeting. DATES TO REMEMBER May Meeting, May 28----------Chris Stott Event, July 9------Walnut Street Art Fest, May 7-8------------------AAW National Symposium----July 22-24 (Overland Park, Kansas) Page 2--April Newsletter PRESIDENTS MESSAGE-- The rooms are filling up fast for the AAW symposium in July. I made my reservation today, and there are only a few smoking rooms left at the Sheraton Overland Park Hotel (where all the action is going to be). It might be a good idea for those of us attending to try and carpool. This was mentioned at the last meeting, and I think that we should consider it. The Artsfest is coming up in May 7 & 8. A couple of club members attended last year in the rain and wind, and had a miserable time. Do we want to try again this year? If yes, then there has to be a commitment from the membership to have ú someone there at times during the event. If there is not enough participation, then we should probably forego it this year. Last year Andy started a series of journals that were passed out to members so they might write of their activities during a month period, then pass this journal to another member. What has happened to these journals? If anyone has one, bring it to the next meeting on 23 April. Also lost is the list of those wanting a DVD or video of the Tom Crabb event. LetŐs get this back. In planning for the Chris Stott event in July, letŐs consider an all inclusive package price. This will include lunch and coffee/softdrinks/water. We also need to have posters or signs made up or to download at our computers so we all can promote this event. Also we should invite other clubs to attend. By the way, show and tell is always on the agenda of each club meeting. One last point, is a summer social event in order? If yes, then when and where? Think about it for the next meeting. MIKE |
